A message from the principal
Welcome to Hurlbutt Elementary School and the 2010-2011 school year! We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning and fun where we can grow as individuals and as a school community.
Hurlbutt is a kindergarten through grade 2 school serving approximately 510 students. Our preschool programs, the Early Learning Center and the Hand-in-Hand program, are also part of our learning community serving approximately 45 students. We have 92 staff members including general education and special education teachers, reading and math teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, administrators, school nurse, office staff, security and custodial support.
We are very proud to follow the Responsive Classroom® approach through which we work together to build the foundations of a respectful and kind school community. Our teachers are trained in this approach that incorporates a collaborative effort among students, staff and parents.
Our school theme for the year is Follow Your Hopes and Dreams! We start each day with a song, greeting, Pledge of Allegiance, birthday announcements and Hurlbutt Happenings. We end our public address announcement with our theme to remind each other what we are striving for together as a school community.
We are very fortunate to have a very active PTO that supports the school and district initiatives. Each classroom is equipped with a SmartBoard and Smart Document Camera, all provided for by the PTO. The PTO also funds the Talent on Tap program which brings specialists to our building to enhance the educational experience of our students. We welcome and value parental involvement as an integral part of our school community.
We encourage you to tab through our website to learn more about the various programs Weston offers, along with curriculum initiatives and extracurricular activities.
Sincerely,
Joanna Genovese
